Firefighter Civil Service Testing Announcement


The City of Meadville will be accepting applications for testing to prepare an Eligibility List from which full-time and part-time firefighters will be hired.  This Civil Service process will include an application, physical agility test, written test, oral exam and background investigation. 

Applicants must meet the following requirements (per current collective bargaining agreement and Civil Service rules):   
21 years of age at time of application; be a U.S. citizen; possess a high school diploma or GED;  possess a valid driver’s license with no record of suspension or revocation;  possess a current EMT certification;  have successfully completed Fire Essentials Program with Structural Burn documentation or Equivalent and Emergency Vehicle Operation Course;  and possess a Hazardous Materials Operations certification. 

Preference points are awarded for Veterans and those with a current PA EMT-Paramedic license.
Additionally, full-time firefighters are subject to residency requirements per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  There are no residency requirements for part-time firefighters. Full time employee benefits include:  Paid holidays, paid vacation days, paid sick days; Health Insurance (employee share); Dental; Life; HRA; Defined Contribution Plan; Salary $45,317 (2024).
